I’m an award-winning journalist and former humor columnist for the Seattle Post-Intelligencer with publishing credits at Bust, CNN, Health, MSN, MSNBC, NBCNEWS, TODAY, Washington Post and dozens of other news outlets. I’ve won a handful of awards for both essays and fiction and my work has been translated into two languages. My short fiction has appeared in Asimov’s, F&SF, Interzone and elsewhere. Nonfiction books include How to Date in a Post-Dating World and the anthology Single State of the Union.

For the last decade, I’ve written about cancer, scientific research and the patient experience for Fred Hutch News, translating complex scientific studies into easy-to-understand health news the public can use. I have extensive media and public speaking experience and regularly advocate for cancer patients and their loved ones via @double_whammied (Twitter) and @doublewhammied (Bluesky).
